When you start a website/blog, you will hear all about search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine traffic.
So, just what is search engine traffic? Do you really need it and how can you get it?
What Is Search Engine Traffic Exactly?
Search engine traffic can be split into two categories. Before I get into them, it’s important to look at what search engine traffic is overall.
Search engine traffic is a group of people that visits your site after performing a search in Google, Bing, Yahoo, and others. People will input search terms into the search engines and click on the results that they gain.
This is where SEO plays a part. You want to be at the top of the search engine results if you want to get more search engine traffic. People aren’t going to move onto page two and higher just to find you!
You can get to the top of the results organically, or you can opt for paid search engine traffic. Now it’s time to look into these.
What Is Organic Search Engine Traffic?
Organic traffic is the type of traffic that the majority of businesses and blog owners rely on.
When you type in a word or phrase (keyword) on Google, the search engines algorithms crawl websites and determine which ones relate to that keyword. Those that are deemed highly relevant by the algorithm will appear at the top. Click here to learn how to perform keyword research effectively.
There is no paid way to game this system. It’s all done through hard work! You need to create quality content to your audience and post articles on a regular basis.
The more thorough and quality articles you post, the more Google will assign authority to your site. The higher your site authority, the greater your chances of getting your posts at the top of search results.
That’s why it takes time to get enough traffic and, as a result, profits!
What Is Paid Search Engine Traffic?
Paid traffic comes from the use of ads on the search engines. These are placed at the top of results, based on the search terms that individuals use. It’s very clear that your term is a paid ad, as it has “ad” written on them.
All the ads are pay per click. So, you end up paying for any traffic that comes to your site. It doesn’t matter if they buy from your site or not. You’ve paid for the honour of getting the traffic to your website. If nobody clicks on the ad, you won’t pay for the ad placement.
Is Search Engine Traffic Important?
Absolutely! While there are other methods of getting in front of eyes, search engines are still essential for any long-term online business. You need to improve your page rank and get your content into those top spots. Whether you do that organically or through paid placements is completely up to you.
However, if you are just starting out, you need to give priority to organic traffic. Why? Mainly because it’s free and offer tremendous potential.
Imagine how many people are using Google every single say, all over the world! Whenever you post an article, you create a new opportunity for more traffic and more sales.
