What is Magic Ears Teacher?
Magic Earns Teacher is an English learning platform where you can teach Chinese kids between the age of 4 to 12 and earn $20 – $26/ hour.
That is an excellent pay rate compared to freelance writing or translation jobs.
Besides, you can work flexible hours from home or anywhere you want!
Remember that you will teach a group of up to four students, which can be challenging to manage remotely.
On the other hand, the curriculum is already done for you, so you won’t be required to plan any lessons.
Also, you won’t have to correct homework, which means “free time” after classes.
Is Magic Ears a Scam?
After careful research, I can assure you that Magic Ears is a legitimate company to work for.
There is absolutely nothing to worry about!
Pros and Cons of Magic Ears
Pros
- Work from the comfort of your home.
- Make your own hours.
- Excellent pay rate (earn up to $26 per hour).
- Some teachers report that the classes go fast compared to other companies. That is because the 1-on-4 style is more interactive and fun!
- It doesn’t require a minimum number of hours. However, it’s highly recommended that you open at least ten slots weekly.
- Low preparation time.
- Lenient cancellation policy: You can cancel a class without showing any medical proof.
- Focus on natural language.
- You can use transitional phrases (incidental language) to encourage native speech.
- The staff is very proactive regarding I.T. issues.
Cons
- Managing a group of four children online can be challenging.
- You are constantly being observed by Magic Ears, who want to make sure you are always energetic, engaging, and diligent with noise issues.
- You are still trading time for money.

The Hiring Process
Stage 1: Online Application
To work for Magic Ears, the first step is filling out an application form and submitting your cv.
If they like your resume, you can choose to do a live interview or record a demo class.
Remember that Magic Ears prefers the live interview, so I highly recommend choosing this method to start with the right foot.
During the interview or demo, you must show your personality, passion, and enthusiasm for teaching.
Also, don’t forget to use T.P.R. (Total Physical Response) and change the tone of your voice from time to time.
Depending on your qualifications and your performance in the interview stage, you can skip the training stage and jump to the trial class (stage 3).
Stage 2: Training (1V1)
After the interview, you must complete the training stage known as 1V1.
At this stage, you must watch some training videos and meet with the trainer for a 55-minute session for additional training.
The trainer will ask you to do a demo class with one “student.”
At the end of the session, you will receive feedback on your performance. Please pay close attention to the feedback and use it in your favor.
The 1V1 is an excellent opportunity to show your E.S.L. skills and prove to Magic Ears that you are a dedicated and highly committed professional.
Also, this is when you can ask any questions you might have.
Stage 3: Trial Class
After passing the 1V1 training, you will have to do a trial class, where you will be teaching up to 4 live students.
You should demonstrate that you can manage and control your students’ control thise and our students.
Noise is a big issue when teaching 1-on-4. So, it would be best if you muted the background noise from the students except the one who is supposed to speak.
Yes, Magic Ears want you to hit the mute button to prevent one or more students from disturbing the class.
So, it’s essential to know how to manage background noise correctly.
Also, you mustâĤ
- Correct the students whenever they are wrong.
- Use at least three props per class.
- Reward the kids who provide the correct answer or perform well!
Stage 4: Background Check
After passing the trial class, you must submit your documentation for the background check, which usually takes 3 â 4 days.
If everything is ok, you can sign your contract and start opening slots!
I wish you good luck with your application!
Let’s talk about the booking process and payments, shall we?
Bookings
It’s important to understand that you won’t be able to open slots and get them fully booked instantly.
As with any online learning platform, filling up your schedule is usually a prolonged process.
It takes time!
The reason is that Magic earns want to make sure you are performing well before committing 100% to your schedule.
So, in the first week, you can open up just one slot at 8:30 p.m. Beijing Time.
In the second week, you can open a 8:30 p.m. and a 9:30 p.m. Beijing Time slot.
After you have over 100 classes under your belt, Magic Ears will review your performance and hopefully book 80% of your slots.
Eventually, you can become a senior teacher and have 100% of your slots booked.
Pay Rate
The base pay is $9 – USD 11Â per 25 minutes of class plus 5 minutes of student feedback.
Your wage depends on your credentials and experience and a teacher.
According to Magic Ears, you can earn up to $26 per hour!
You can earn an extra USD 1 per class if you show up 3 minutes before the course starts and meet the teaching schedule.
Then, you can earn an extra $1 USD per class if you open more than 60 classes per month during peak times.
The peak times are the following:
- Weekdays:30 p.m. â 9:30 p.m. Beijing Time.
- Weekends:30 a.m. â 9:30 p.m. Beijing Time.
Conclusion
Magic Ears is not only legit but a reputable company to work remotely as an English Teacher.
If you have the required qualifications and experience, you can make an excellent online income with Magic Ears.
However, don’t expect to make a full-time income after signing your contract.
Unlike a brick-and-mortar school, there is no guarantee that students will show up for a class or that you will have a minimum number of hours booked.
So, your earnings can go up and down depending on your performance and student demand.
Magic Ears has some of the same disadvantages as a traditional 9-5 job.
- You have to be always on time.
- The company is constantly reviewing your performance.
- You are still trading your time for money.
On the other hand, the pay rate is excellent, and you have the flexibility to set your schedule and work from home.
Verdict: Legit
How I Make a Full-Time Income Online â NO SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED
In 2015, I discovered how to build an online business and make money on my own terms.
This discovery has completely changed my life!
I was doing a Master’s degree at that time, but once I realized all the benefits of working for myself from home, I decided to quit!
“Growing an affiliate website would allow me to travel the world and still make money.”
Instead of paying £3,000 in annual tuition fees, I invested roughly $1/day in a reputable program and website building platform called Wealthy Affiliate.
Keep in mind that it requires a lot of time and hard work initially.
It took me eight months to earn my first dollar and another eight months to reach 500/mo as an affiliate.
But then, my website traffic grew exponentially, and I was able to make a consistent $1,300 per month. Sometimes, I would make $2,000+ per month!
What I love about making money with my website is the freedom that it provides.
I am my own boss, and although I operate a real online business, I don’t have to handle customer service.
Don’t get me wrong! I am not discouraging you from working as a Magic Ears teacher!
I intend to inform you about a robust business model you can use regardless of your primary occupation.
If you can spare 1, 2, or 3 hours per day, five days a week, you can make it work!
Mind you. I was working as a kitchen porter in London all the time I was growing my website.
So, if I can do it, so can you!
