Be The Boss Network Review

  • Product Name: Be the Boss Network (BTB)
  • Website:
  • Business Type: Multi-level Marketing (MLM)
  • Price: Free
  • [yasr_overall_rating size=”medium”] 2.5 out of 10

What is Be The Boss Network?

BTB is nothing more than a directory or a selection of companies offering MLM opportunities.

Their job is to connect people with these enterprises and convince you that their selection is reliable.

How Does it Work?

As I said, Be The Boss Network is a website that provides a list of network marketing companies.

If you decide MLM is the way to go, then you can go to the directory and choose from around 42 companies. Some are well-established companies, such as Avon, Herbalife, and Watkins.

When you select a company, a brief description will be provided, together with start-up costs and a comparison graph.

Then, you should go to the official website and apply to become a representative.

The important question is not how BTB works, but how does a multi-level marketing company work. That’s what I am going to cover next.

What is an MLM?

MLM is a type of direct selling where the salesperson is responsible for selling the products directly to the customers without having a fixed retail location. Besides, the person is also encouraged to find additional recruits.

By recruiting other marketers (who can also recruit others and so on), the representative also earns a compensation from the selling efforts of all the participants down the line.

Most companies will require you to buy their products before becoming a representative.

Is it a pyramid scheme?

MLM has been widely criticized because of its similarities with pyramid schemes, which are illegal.

The big difference is that in the pyramid scheme, there is no product involved and the profit comes solely from the enrolment fees of the members. It a completely unsustainable!

nutcracker crushing playmobil
Representatives usually struggle to sell the product and make life-changing profits. That’s when they start recruiting new distributors in hopes of earning commissions.

Why do people struggle to sell?

Because the products are usually overpriced.

Another important factor is the market saturation. A system where the priority is on recruiting new sellers rather than selling products can have a short life. There will be too many sellers for too little potential buyers.

The products are expensive because of the compensation structure necessary to get more people into the system. In order to justify the expensive price, they are often promoted as miracles for the problem they are supposed to solve.

The promise of work from home and financial independence is what makes people join.

However, only those at the top levels earn significant and consistent income. The majority probably work for less than the minimum wage.

These are two statements by Roland Whitsell, a former business professor that dedicated 40 years researching MLM organizations:

It is very hard to find someone earning over $1.50 an hour.

The primary product is opportunity. The strongest, most powerful motivational force is false hope.

It’s Challenging

Here are some official data provided by some MLM companies:

The Herbalife case

Herbalife sells nutrition supplements.

Check out the Herbalife’s Statement of Annual Gross Compensation (2011).

From their statement you can see the following average earnings:

  • 0.6% (president’s Team ) = $ 515,689
  • 1.7% (millionaire team level) = $ 100,195
  • 6.5% (GET level)  = $22,766
  •  7.3% ( world team level) = $6,22,7
  • 83.9% (supervisor level) = $901

Well, the numbers speak for themselves! The large majority of Herbalife employees cannot make a living out of it. But that is expected as most people just put in the time and effort required to earn a side cash.

The Organogold case

Organogold sells coffee infused with a Chinese herb called Ganoderma, which has been investigated for some therapeutic benefits.

You have to purchase a business entry kit, priced at $49.95 to get access to wholesale products and be a distributor.

Screenshot from Organogold's website on how to get started

At the bottom of the page they give you a piece of relevant information:

Screenshot from the organogold's website stating that a tipical member earns from $0 to $599 per year

Knowing that a typical participant earns up to $599 per year is very discouraging!

Tools and Training

BTB don’t offer any training or tools. In fact, it couldn’t even be bothered to give a simple explanation of what an MLM is.

BTB directory is free. After all, they don’t provide any service apart from connecting people with the companies.

However, you will have to pay each company to join, either by an entrance fee or by the purchase of related products.

My Final Opinion – Is Be The Boss Network a Scam?

Be The Boss Network is simply a website displaying multi-level marketing companies. So, it is not a scam.

However, it’s tough to prosper as an MLM representative because of all the factors I mentioned in this review.

Verdict: Not Recommended

Create a Profitable Home-Based Business

If you want to create a long-lasting business from home, I highly recommend you build a website and promote products as an affiliate marketer.

It is easy to understand how it works and why it is so much better than MLM.

As an affiliate marketer, you will promote other people’s product on your site. Then, every time someone clicks on your links and make a purchase through the retailer’s website, you will earn a commission. It’s that simple!

Why is Affiliate Marketing so much better than MLM?
  • There is no direct selling, and you don’t need to recruit/annoy anyone
  • You can promote any product that you truly believe in
  • The commission structure is very simple
  • Affiliate programs are free to join
  • You can reach people all over the world and 24/7
  • Unlimited income potential

As I always mention in my reviews, it ‘s hard to dive into internet marketing without proper training and support.

  1. Hello!

This is a really great article! I like the fact that you have explained the MLM as it is and the truth about it. I am engaged with MLM type of business already but it is unique and different. Most others are just scams. It is important to be cautious.

    Very good and informative!

  2. Hi Stefan

Loving your website. Thanks for posting this review. I hadn’t heard of the Be The Boss network before I came across your site but now I’m glad I did!

There are much better ways to earn money online and I hope people check those out rather than this!

    1. Hi Mark. I am glad you are enjoying it and thanks for commenting. Be the boss network is interested in referring people to those 40+ MLM companies. It is just a directory of companies and nothing else! They could at least give an explanation of how an MLM works.

  3. hello stefan i lekd your ways you have buil your website so many information ,i very like the pro and con that great to know your motivation link and your content get me in easy ,i like too the website making money ,as a new affiliate i learn something new thanks you kepp your good working stefan !

    1. Hi Yann! I am glad the information here is of good use to you. I hope you take the best out of it and I wish you good luck with your online business.

  4. Hi Stefan,

Thanks for sharing you expertise incite so that companies like will swindle no one Be the Boss Network. I see that you recommend Wealthy Affiliate when doing your comparison. Are you member of the Wealth Affiliate Community? What is the reason for being a member of Wealthy Affiliate and for long do you plan to stay?

    Yours Truly,

    1. Hi Carlton! Nice to hear from you. Yes. I am a member of wealthy affiliate for 4 months now. I was very skeptical at first, but then, as WA offers a free trial and I didn’t need to provide my credit card details I just decided to check it out. That was when I realized the how good the training and community was. I had never experienced this kind of environment where everybody is helping each other to reach the same goal – be successful at internet marketing. I saw the true potential in creating a website and earning money from it with the help of Wealthy Affiliate. So, I have created this website to help other people and the reason why I decided to build my business promoting WA is because it is considered the best internet marketing training. I encourage you to check my wealthy affiliate review here, where I explain in detail all the good great advantages of studying there. I am planning to stay with Wealthy Affiliate for the entire existence of my online business. I still have a lot to learn and even when I finish my training, it is really important to be in contact with others to keep up to date of new trends and developments in internet marketing. There are many successful people who are there for more than 6 years. Thanks for your comment!

  5. Hi Diana, yes you are right! I there is a blog over there but I have found no relevant information specific to the MLM industry. They give too much emphasis to working from home, but no information of what your job is going to be.

  6. Hi Brandon. The Herbafile statement of compensation is the proof that it is really hard to earn decent money with MLM. Although internet marketing is not easy too, I think it’s more achievable for the average joe. It’s scalable too! With MLM, you don’t own any business and you have to trade your time to sell the products. It is so much more limited in terms of earning potential. Thanks for your comment!

  7. Hi Stefan Wow how interesting that the vast majority earn less than $901a year with MLM. Doesn’t seem like much money for a year’s worth of effort and that’s only a one time payment for the year in question. No wonder Affiliate Marketing ranks higher and Wealthy Affiliate certainly helps improve the odds even further with it’s excellent training and education program designed by affiliate marketers for affiliate marketers. Thanks for providing a great review for your readers. 🙂

    1. Hi Peter. Yes! When I was doing my research and found this number I was shocked as well. I simply cannot find the motivation to work with MLM knowing all about those disadvantages. It has nothing to do with who I am. I don’t like to act like a boring sales person, pushing products that people are not interested in.In internet marketing, my job is to answer questions people are asking, by creating articles. At the end of each article, I always show my recommendations and people decide for themselves if that is relevant to them or not.

  8. Hi Stefan – Really enjoyed reading your post and your review of Be The Boss. I appreciate that some MLM companies are nothing more than scams I don’t however agree with your summation of MLM’s in general.
Some of the most successful companies in the world are MLM companies. AMWAY and AVON for example. The products are reasonably priced with the commission being taken from the savings in the distribution by the seller and not a by logistics company.
I do agree that there are a lot of scam companies out there and the community at wealthy Affiliate are doing a great job in exposing these.
Great post – Keep up the good work.

    1. Hi Mark. I understand that MLM divide opinions and truly respect yours.

I am not a fan of having to purchase expensive packages to be able to become a representative. Also, I am not a sales person and hate direct selling. But I also understand that the MLM model work for other people, so one should look for what they feel will bring the best results while enjoying the process.

Well, I prefer earning affiliate commissions targeting the expanding online market. People are buying more and more on the internet and I believe the future will be even more bright for internet marketers. By building a website to focus on affiliate marketing, one can realistically earn a passive income and scale it up to earn much more than $1000. Besides, it is accessible to all, as anyone starts from scratch without any sales or advanced skills in website creation.

Everyone can become successful starting from the bottom with an MLM company. But as everything takes and effort, people need to have realistic expectations and work hard to reach their dreams.

      Thanks for your comment.

  9. Hi Stefan,

Great blog. I do remember quickly coming across Be The Boss in some searches but never investigated it.

You provided a great breakdown and explanation of the program and if it is worthwhile.

Going further into MLM and explaining how it works and if you can make money at it in outstanding. So many of us are exposed to MLM opportunities sometimes without our prior knowledge.

I like the info you provided on affiliate marketing and can see where that would be the desired direction to take for a work from home business.

    Thanks again!

    1. Hi Ron!Indeed. Affiliate marketing is the way to go, in my opinion. There is so many advantages over MLM. Usually, with MLM You will have to meet a lot of targets and the pressure will be higher. I think everyone willing to work from home wants more freedom and less headache compare to the 9-5. So, I can’t think of anything better than building an online business for ourselves. Thanks for your comment and have a good week!

  10. Hey Stephan,

I stumble upon your review after wondering if the boss network was legitimate. I’d heard of a lot of the companies they listed and I knew they weren’t great.

I’ve been involved in a few MLMs before and have never been successful, but I thought I’d give it another shot.

After reading your review, I’m going to check out your recommendation with affiliate marketing.

Why do you recommend affiliate marketing over MLMs?

    1. Hi BrokI am sure you won’t regret giving Affiliate Marketing a try because it has so many advantages over MLM. Affiliate marketing is not direct selling, meaning that you don’t need to go after people to sell the products. You don’t need to buy any product, follow any corporate hierarchy, deal with suppliers or people down the line. The compensation plan is also much simpler. The profits in MLM most of the times comes from recruiting people, which in turn, need to perform well so they earn commissions for you. Besides, the products are usually overpriced and hard to sell. Affiliate marketing is all about promoting products through content marketing. The most common and clever way is by creating a website and writing helpful articles. It is everything much simpler! You just need a computer and internet connection. It may take longer to see a profit, but it is sustainable and you can leverage to the point where you making a full-time income. On the other hand, MLM’s prospects are discouraging and only those at who are at the top (who entered the system early) are able to make good money. Even though, you will always depend on others to earn your commissions, whereas in affiliate/internet marketing, your content is working for you 24/7! What do you think about all these advantages? All the bestStefan

  11. Thanks for this post of information.

I have never been a fan of MLM and this information serves as a reminder to me why I am still not.

A lot of people are still convinced MLM is the way forward, but it isn’t. Thanks for highlighting this company and hopefully others will take notice of what you have to say!

    1. Thanks for your valuable opinion Chris. I also don;t think MLM is the way to go. There are no convincing advantages that make me go for it. My focus is on creating a business for myself, not keep working for other people for the rest of my life. That’s what gives me the motivation to work hard on my website! The best thing is to know that I am helping many people along the way, not bothering them with expensive products. All the bestStefan
