What is Be The Boss Network?

BTB is nothing more than a directory or a selection of companies offering MLM opportunities.

Their job is to connect people with these enterprises and convince you that their selection is reliable.

How Does it Work?

As I said, Be The Boss Network is a website that provides a list of network marketing companies.

If you decide MLM is the way to go, then you can go to the directory and choose from around 42 companies. Some are well-established companies, such as Avon, Herbalife, and Watkins.

When you select a company, a brief description will be provided, together with start-up costs and a comparison graph.

Then, you should go to the official website and apply to become a representative.

The important question is not how BTB works but how a multi-level marketing company works. That’s what I am going to cover next.

What is an MLM?

MLM is a type of direct selling where the salesperson is responsible for selling the products directly to the customers without having a fixed retail location. Besides, the person is also encouraged to find additional recruits.

By recruiting other marketers (who can also recruit others and so on), the representative also earns compensation from the selling efforts of all the participants down the line.

Most companies will require you to buy their products before becoming a representative.

Is it a pyramid scheme?

MLM has been widely criticized for its similarities with pyramid schemes, which are illegal.

The big difference is that in the pyramid scheme, there is no product involved, and the profit comes solely from the enrolment fees of the members. It a completely unsustainable!

Representatives usually struggle to sell the product and make life-changing profits. That’s when they recruit new distributors hoping to earn commissions.

Why do people struggle to sell?

Because the products are usually overpriced.

Another important factor is market saturation. A system that prioritizes recruiting new sellers rather than selling products can have a short life. There will be too many sellers for too few potential buyers.

The products are expensive because of the compensation structure necessary to get more people into the system. To justify the high price, they are often promoted as miracles for the problem they are supposed to solve.

The promise of working from home and financial independence makes people join.

However, only those at the top levels earn significant and consistent income. The majority probably work for less than the minimum wage.

These are two statements by Roland Whitsell, a former business professor that dedicated 40 years to researching MLM organizations:

It is very hard to find someone earning over $1.50 an hour.

The primary product is opportunity. The strongest, most powerful motivational force is false hope.

It’s Challenging

Here are some official data provided by some MLM companies:

The Herbalife case

Herbalife sells nutrition supplements.

Check out the Herbalife’s Statement of Annual Gross Compensation (2011).

From their statement, you can see the following average earnings:

  • 0.6% (president’s Team ) = $ 515,689
  • 1.7% (millionaire team level) = $ 100,195
  • 6.5% (GET level)  = $22,766
  •  7.3% ( world team level) = $6,22,7
  • 83.9% (supervisor level) = $901

Well, the numbers speak for themselves! Most Herbalife employees cannot make a living out of it. But that is expected as most people just put in the time and effort required to earn side cash.

The Organogold case

Organogold sells coffee infused with a Chinese herb called Ganoderma, which has been investigated for therapeutic benefits.

You must purchase a business entry kit, priced at $49.95, to get access to wholesale products and be a distributor.

At the bottom of the page, they give you a piece of relevant information:

Knowing that a typical participant earns up to $599 per year is very discouraging!

Tools and Training

BTB doesn’t offer any training or tools. In fact, it couldn’t even be bothered to explain what an MLM is.

Price

BTB directory is free. After all, they don’t provide any service apart from connecting people with the companies.

However, you will have to pay each company to join, either by an entrance fee or by purchasing related products.

My Final Opinion – Is Be The Boss Network a Scam?

Be The Boss Network is simply a website displaying multi-level marketing companies. So, it is not a scam.

However, it’s tough to prosper as an MLM representative because of all the factors I mentioned in this review.

Verdict: Not Recommended

Create a Profitable Home-Based Business

If you want to create a long-lasting business from home, I highly recommend you build a website and promote products as an affiliate marketer.

It is easy to understand how it works and why it is so much better than MLM.

As an affiliate marketer, you will promote other people’s products on your site. Then, every time someone clicks on your links and make a purchase through the retailer’s website, you will earn a commission. It’s that simple!

Why is Affiliate Marketing so much better than MLM?
  • There is no direct selling, and you don’t need to recruit/annoy anyone
  • You can promote any product that you truly believe in
  • The commission structure is straightforward
  • Affiliate programs are free to join
  • You can reach people all over the world and 24/7
  • Unlimited income potential

As I always mention in my reviews, it’s hard to dive into internet marketing without proper training and support.
