What is FluidStack?
FluidStack is advertised as a distributed cloud platform that significantly speeds up website content delivery at a fraction of the cost.
Instead of using expensive data-centres, FluidStack takes advantage of a network of consumer computers around the world to create an ultra-low content delivery network (CDN).
You can contribute to this network by renting a small portion of your computer processor (CPU) and internet bandwidth.
Therefore, your computer will be used as a cloud server, storing and providing content data.
In turn, you will earn between $5 – $50 per month depending on your internet connection.
The good news is that Fluidstack will only use your computer when it’s idle. Therefore, it won’t affect the performance of your device while you are using it.

Is FluidStack a Scam?
No. I don’t think so. Also, I don’t believe the software will harm and steal information from on your computer.
FluidStack is a startup founded in 2013 by three Oxford University graduates: Gary Wu, James Cox and Reaal Khalil.
The founders claim to have raised £1.1 million from Europe’s most renowned seed investors like Seedcamp, Episode1, and Founders Factory.
I’ve seen some screenshots of payments on the internet and some positive testimonials, so I believe people do get paid.
Perhaps you are concerned that FluidStack might be using your PC to mine cryptocurrency, but if that were true, then they probably wouldn’t be able to pay more than $5 per month.
Requirements
You need a Windows desktop computer with at least a 2.5 GHz dual-core processor, 2 GBs of RAM, and a fast internet connection (>10Mbps).
If you have a laptop, that’s okay too as long as it’s always online.

The software is going to use up to 10 GB, so it’s essential to have more than that of free space.
Another requirement is that your computer must be available at least 50% of the time during the whole month.
Note that VPN servers are not accepted and you will only get paid once per IP address.
If you have another computer, you won’t get paid twice if you use the same internet connection. You have to use another IP.
How Does It Work?
Registration
The first step is to visit the website provider.fluidstack.io and click on “Join Fluidstack”.
Next, fill up the form with your name and email address. The registration is 100% free!
Installation
Once you log in, there are only two things you need to do:
1. Create a Cluster
On the dashboard, click on “New Cluster”, then give a name to it and click “save”.
A Cluster token will be created.
Copy the token because it will be used during the installation of the node on your computer.
2. Download Node
The last step is to download the node, which connects your device to the FluidStack cloud.
Click on “Download Installer” and follow the instructions on the screen.
When you are installing the software, you have the option to use UPnP (without manually following ports) or manual port following.
If you choose the UPnP, you don’t need to do anything else.
That’s all!
Can Your Earn $50 Per Month?
As I mentioned, you will earn between $5 – $50 per month.
What will determine the pay rate are mainly your internet speed and the time your computer stays connected to the internet.
To reach the $50 cap, you should have a 500 Mbps fibre broadband, and your computer must be available 24/7.
You should expect around $10 per month if your internet is connecting at 100 Mbps.

What Information Does FluidStack Collect From You?
I noticed FluidStack’s Privacy Policy is very simplistic and doesn’t cover some critical aspects required by privacy regulations in Europe (GDPR).
For example, FluidStack promises they won’t collect any personally identifiable information from you but fails to inform which data.
After some research, I found a Reddit thread where the company shows a list of all the personal data that they are collecting, which are your IP, ISP, internet speed and hardware information (OS, RAM, and CPU).
I believe they forgot to mention the name and email address collected through the sign-up form!?
In my opinion, many things need to be addressed. For example, they should give people the right to opt out and delete all their data from the system.
Energy Consumption
In this Reddit thread, one person said you would lose money because the node software would consume a lot of electricity and put pressure on your CPU.
However, the company assured that running the node was equivalent to watching a video on Youtube. It’s not like minimum crypto which runs CPU at 100%.
Therefore, it shouldn’t increase too much your electricity bills.
Referral Program
FluidStack pays $5 per referral that signs up and installs working nodes.
All you have to do is share the referral link with your friends on Facebook, WhatsApp Instagram, etc., as well as invite people through forums.
Payment
Once you have earned at least $5, you will get paid via PayPal at the end of the month.

Conclusion
I like the idea of earning passive income with FluidsTack, but there are still some concerns about privacy and security.
Even though the company assures our data is protected and the software is harmless, I’m still hesitant in installing and leaving it running on my computer.
There are many scams and malware on the internet these days, so, naturally, people are skeptical about it.
I don’t think FluidStack is a scam, but the reality is that no one can be 100% sure that it’s safe.
